Writings of a Twisted Arm
I did not especially want to start a new blog. I was happy with the one I had. However, in order for me to do well in a class, I had to make another. So here, under protest, is my new blog.

The Bald and the Beautiful
I found this in the latest issue of CMYK. It's a advertising campaign for Rogaine. The main message of the campaign is "you're more you with your hair." The type design playfully links hair to these desirable qualities. Personally, I think it's bull, but since Rogaine is still in business, it seems to be working for them.

Music for those whose song has ended...
I found this in the 2009 Graphis Design Annual. Designed by Volt Positive, out of Ottawa, this poster promotes a 2007 concert put on by the New Talent Conservatory. The piano concert was led by different rising young pianists, and was put on as a tribute to the victims of the September 11th attacks. The two black keys represent the Twin Towers. I really like the power and emotion that this very simple design conveys.

To market, to market...
I found this in the Graphis Design Annual 2009. As a bit of a creative writer myself, I'm always interested in designs that use clever or witty text in order to relay a message. This design for Central Market, done by McGarrah/Jessee, is just amazingly hilarious to me. I love the conversational nature of the text. It personifies the bag, gives it a personality, and honestly makes the new owner of said bag think about how they will now use it. I love the bit about wanting to be a kite. All in all, I think the design works amazingly well, giving a little levity to what might otherwise be a very mundane chore.

To the Bookmobile!
I found this in the 2011 Graphis Annual. These are designs for bookmobiles for the Johnson County Library in Overland Park, KS. The design was done by Barkley. I love how the design references the books in an unexpected way and how it gets you curious to read the book to discover the story. It's a really original idea and very well executed.
